Research into Medicinal and Aromatic Plants
Intercooperation has been one of the active pioneers in Bangladesh for the promotion of medicinal and aromatic plants. Considering that the sector could contribute to the socio-economic prosperity of Bangladesh , Intercooperation developed an initial concept note which gave a vision on a 10 year perspective.

In 2003, Intercooperation jointly organised with SEDF a study on the sector, by a team of consultants led by Graham Dixie. The report was presented before a large panel of stakeholders which decided to organise a platform on medicinal plants, coordinated by Intercooperation. The objectives of this platform were two fold: firstly, to contribute to policy dialogue, secondly, to develop concrete collaborative activities.
Up to 2005, Intercooperation organised complementary studies to better assess the priority interventions, including the selection of priority species. Meanwhile, considering that the platform did not progress much, Intercooperation took the initiative, within the frame of LEAF project, to develop pilot operational activities in the promotion of medicinal plants in communities.
