Vision

Poor and extreme poor men and women make use of enhanced employment and income generating opportunities through the processes of defining, managing, and lobbying to secure a more enabling environment for their sustainable well-being.

Goal

Contribute to sustainable well-being and resilience of poor and extreme poor households of Rajshahi Division and Sunamganj District through social and economic empowerment.

Objectives

Contributing to sustainable market development through viable business management/plan, market linkages, better performance of rural service and input market

Improving performance of value chains in terms of value addition, chain governance, etc.

Facilitating institutional and human development to enable communities to lead their own social and economic development.

Improving the integration of community priorities in local governance leading to an empowering and enabling environment and resilience against disasters and other shocks
Strengthening social capital and inclusiveness within the communities (gender equality, participation of poor and extreme poor men and women, ethnic minorities as well as disadvantaged community members)

Intervention area

Main activities

Facilitate market and value chain development for sustainability
Promote the capacity of market actors and in particular producers to secure access to better markets and services
Promote the human and institutional capacities of community platforms
Enhance better service provisions through Service Providers' Associations (SPAs)/Local Service Providers (LSPs) and the establishment of collaboration with the public and private sector

Support the business management capacities and social responsibility of MSEs

Mainstream gender and DRR

Establish collaboration and synergies with like-minded organizations and projects

Main Achievements (August 2010)

Establishment of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 18 Partner NGOs
Reorientation of project's and PNGOs' staff
Development of tools and guidelines for project's progress monitoring in line with its log-frame
Completion of project's baseline survey
Completion of 12 value chain analysis
Development of strategies on enterprise development and service market development
Selection and training of 520 Community Facilitators (CFs) for the expansion of programme in new area
Selection and training of Local Service Providers (LSPs) – Business Service for supporting Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs)
Budget

8.3 million CHF (August 2010 – July 2013)
