Women's Mobilisation and Gender Mainstreaming

As a gender sensitive institution, Intercooperation developed early initiatives in Bangladesh for promoting gender balance in its projects, structures and operational programmes. These include gender audit in the organisation, promotion of gender task forces and focal points at different levels (projects, partner NGOs, communities), orientation of partner staff on gender, female mentors at community level (active women coaching other women of the community for solving problems related to gender).

One of the greatest achievements has been organising participatory gender analysis at the community level. Plans of action to promote gender issues and decrease discrimination toward women followed. Women became partners in development activities.

Main assets/results:

Project staff oriented on gender awareness and analysis
'Gender Task Force' formed to provide strategic directives to partners
Developed plan of actions by CBOs
Gender focal points formed at partner level

Female mentors designated and trained

Modules/Methodology developed

Participatory gender analysis tool for identifying the gender inequalities and the ways to ensure equality at community level
Terms of reference for female mentors, gender focal points and task forces
Methodology for gender audit
Female mentor's training module
